ABERCROMBIE, NS - Northern Pulp employees and community residents have come together in a big way to support the mill’s “Yes WE CAN fill This CAN” Pictou County Food Bank initiative which saw a shipping container fill up with donations of non-perishable food and toiletries.

Donations were dropped off to staff manning the “CAN” from December 6th

through to the evening of December 8th. Northern Pulp’s scale house weighed the donations which came in at a whopping 4972 lbs. “The support shown by employees, retirees and members of the community is truly amazing,” states Bruce Chapman, Northern Pulp General Manager. “We plan to do this again next year and already have the goal to surpass 5000 lbs.”

Unifor Local 440, the union representing Northern Pulp’s unionized workforce, presented a $1000 donation, an amount matched by the corporation which was then turned into food product. Gerald Battist Trucking Ltd. donated their services, transporting the shipping container to the mill site as well as delivering the goods to the food bank.

“You hear people talk of Maritimers and their generosity; as a Maritimer who has happily returned to Nova Scotia, I can tell you that it is definitely the case here in Pictou County.  Seeing people take the time to drop off food donations that totalled nearly 5000 lbs shows just how much generosity there is in this region,” reflects Kathy Cloutier, Communications Director with Northern Pulp.
